Seen the dry ice cooling of the sleeves but the gas axe is a bit of a
worry. Normal to heat up the block in an oven to get *even* expansion.
The way it is done in the video is applying localised heating and can
cause cracking if careless. It is an alloy block by the look of it. Only
ever done sleeves on cast iron blocks, like the 300 petrol Bedfords.
They aren't shrink fits, they get shimmed under the step to get the
correct *crush*, and that crush is provided by the cylinder head. The
Isuzu TWD 6x6 trucks I worked on in Indonesia were the same but the
Indos wouldn't get the crush right, the sleeve would rock and chafe at
the head gasket. Once the block bore became oval, the block was stuffed
- but they kept using them, and changing head gaskets. Frustrating place
to work.
Done quite a few wet sleeves in trucks, and in my old Peugeot, like this;

This one explains the protrusion factor.

Brings back memories, that video! ;-)

First thing I thought of too. Pretty risky.

Yes, you would have done a few wet sleeve engines in your time. Euros
love those wet sleeves.

Darren wouldn't make it to the Paralympic Games, he'd have been
disqualified for cheating in the prelims.
