Off to Perth for a fishing trip. First couple of days are just looking
for bait (herring), and now in Perth area Garfish are now allowed to be
caught. Season for snapper, Dhufish and bald chin grouper doesnt start
till the 16th. Gars are one of my favorite fish to catch and eat, and WA
has some stonkers. So to assist me in beating bro (first to catch 20),
I've bought some new gear... Decided to go to BCF as they are closer and
looked after me last year with a TLD 20 and Backbone elite rod, so I
called and asked if they had the reel I wanted (Shimano Nasci 2500)in
stock (marked as low stock on website). Yes, they had one, but it was a
display model, so I said i'm keen if it's undamaged.(they are hard to
get at the mo...) Cool, driving to BCF, i get a call, it's BCF, and yes
the reel is damaged, so i was in the car, on the way, so I said i'd come
and take a look... Got to the store, and they suggested they could do a
bit on the price of the next model up.. a Mirivel.. i looked at the pair
of them, and cannot believe how light and well balanced they are!! the
Mirivel 2500 has a shallow spool, the 3000 has a much deeper spool;
holds another 80m of line from memory. That'll help with a 4kg salmon...
The kicker? The salesman asked his manager what they could do price
wise, i got the Miravel 3000 for the same price as the Nasci 2500. $159.
Spooled it with 4kg mono, a couple of quill floats, some hooks and split
shot, then I saw a Maikuro II 7' 3-5kg tele rod for $99.. Down from
$120. Perfect. Lovely rod, fits in a suitcase. Insanely light. The rod
and reel may weigh 400g...
So all up, prolly saved a bit, Anaconda have the reel at $229 (club
$183) The rod at $120,(club $95) BCf's prices were similar, but will
beat any price, on-line or not. And they are a lot closer to me than
Anaconda. Happy days! Last year, I caught a 75cm snapper on the first
day. It went back (out of season). Brother has already caught a 90 cm
that went back, and now the lobsters are walking into the reefs. Going
to be a fun 10 days! 🙂
