I'm selling a car thats currently registered in NSW, (roughly 6-7months rego
left) to a person who lives in QLD.

What is the exact procedure to transfer ownership and registration of the
vehicle to the buyer? I've never sold a car interstate ..

What paperwork and actions do we both need to undertake?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I went through all this with my cruiser

the original owner was prepared to let me drive the vehicle back to QLD
You both sign the copy of the rego papers
you keep one section and hand that into the RTA(also is used as proof
that you are no longer the registered owner of the vehicle(speed camera
fines ,band robberies nd such)
you would have to check with the RTA as to whether both parties signing
the change of ownership section of the rego papers is enough to allow
this though

the QLD owner has 14 days to transfer the rego or de rgister

if the QLD owner is registering it in QLD they must get a QLD RWC (NSW
RWC is not acceptable)
and then take it to QLD TPT office for new rego(inspection of
engine/chassis/VIN is carried out)
they then have to surrender the old NSW Plates for which they will
recieve a receipt
this is then sent to the NSW RTA along with the rego papers (I suspect a
form of some kind would have to be filled out as well) to cancel the
rego and claim any unused portion of the rego/CTP and have that sent to
them

as it is a new rego they will also have to pay stamp duty of $2 for
every $100 of the purchase price

Cancel NSW rego and re-register in QLD - no transfer permitted.
